Last Minute 2020 NBA Mock Draft

Hank Stichter

  1. Minnesota Timberwolves: Anthony Edwards, PG, Georgia
Edwards fills a positional need for the Timberwolves, as well as being possibly the best talent on the board. While there are some trade rumors floating around regarding this pick, most of the time these turn out to just be smoke. Look for Edwards to be the number one pick tonight.
  2. Golden State Warriors: James Wiseman, C, Memphis
Similar situation here as Golden State gets a position they need, and Wiseman is by far the best big in the draft. Wiseman could develop to be a phenomenal two-way player for the Warriors if they decide to keep the pick. If they do trade the pick look for it to be with the Bulls
  3. Charlotte Hornets: LaMelo Ball, G, Illawarra
Easy decision tonight for the Hornets, as there is a pretty definitive top-3 in this draft and they can just select the remaining one on the board here. Ball is not a huge positional need but could be a one of a kind type talent that Charlotte couldn’t pass on here. As a Hornets fan I hope Wiseman falls as Charlotte has been in need of a consistent big for ages now.
  4. Chicago Bulls: Patrick Williams, PF, Florida State
Williams can further bolster the talented, yet often injured, front court the Bulls have. They could look to move up to take Wiseman, but Williams is a good two-way player and can extend the floor, and the Bulls wouldn’t have to move any of their other young pieces to get him.
  5. Cleveland Cavaliers: Obi Toppin, PF, Dayton
Toppin is the player everyone is rooting for after his rise at Dayton. He could fit right in as an explosive scorer right away for the Cavaliers. Outside of Edwards and Ball, Toppin could have the most offensive upside in this draft, although he is not the defensive presence that Onyeka Okongwu is who could be another option for the Cavs.
  6. Atlanta Hawks: Deni Avdija, F, Maccabi Tel Aviv
Avdija is sort of a do it all type player, and could help be a Swiss-army knife for the Hawks. They need more offense behind Trae Young and could use more help defending the paint, Avidja could step in and help with both.
  7. Detroit Pistons: Tyrese Haliburton, G, Iowa State
The Pistons should rejoice if Haliburton lands here tonight. Haliburton is the best guard in the draft not named Ball or Edwards, and could be a long term starter for the Pistons at point guard, a position of need.
  8. New York Knicks: Killian Hayes, PG, ULM
The Knicks definitely miss out on Haliburton not being here, although they get another one of the slew of good point guards this draft has to offer in Killian Hayes. He has a bit of a noodle for a body, but is a very technically sound player and plays well on both sides.
  9. Washington Wizards: Onyeka Okongwu, F/C, USC
Onyeka Okongwu is the second best pure big in the draft behind Wiseman, and probably the best defensive player. If he doesn’t go to the Bulls or Cavs look for Okongwu to slide here. A tremendous get here for the Wizards, especially if Okongwu can develop his offensive side.
  10. Phoenix Suns: Devin Vassell, SF, Florida State
Florida State becomes the lone team with two players being selected in the top 10 here, as Vassell helps step in to replace Kelly Oubre Jr. after he was part of the blockbuster deal to send Chris Paul to the Suns. Vassell can score and defend well and what more could you ask for here at 10.
  11. San Antonio Spurs: Isaac Okoro, G/F, Auburn
The Spurs take the best player available here in Okoro. Already an elite defender, Okoro could develop into a star if his raw offensive skills are built on. It would be a bit of a surprise if Okoro fell here, as he is also getting some top 5 looks.
  12. Sacramento Kings: Tyrese Maxey, SG, Kentucky
Maxey would come in to provide a nice compliment to the Kings’ other Kentucky guard De’Aaron Fox. Maxey is much more defense oriented than Fox, and while his offensive capabilities are nothing to marvel at, the Kings desperately need a defensive presence on the perimeter as they gave up close to 13 3’s a game last season.
  13. New Orleans Pelicans: Aaron Nesmith, SG, Vanderbilt
The Pelicans need someone to be a consistent threat from downtown and Nesmith averaged 53% from 3-point range last season… need I say more? Pair that with Zion and this Pelicans’ offense becomes even more fun to watch.
  14. Boston Celtics (From Memphis): Jalen Smith, PF/C, Maryland
Look for Boston to move from here, but in the off chance they stay Smith will provide an immediate presence in a weak front court. Jalen Smith is a physical player and excels at rebounding and shot blocking. He can stretch the floor, but shouldn’t be counted on as a consistent shooter. Smith is one of my favorite players in this draft.
  15. Orlando Magic: Kira Lewis Jr., PG, Alabama
  16. Houston Rockets (From Portland): Isaiah Stewart, C, Washington
  17. Minnesota Timberwolves (From Brooklyn): Saddiq Bey, SF, Villanova
  18. Dallas Mavericks: Precious Achiuwa, PF, Memphis
  19. Brooklyn Nets (From Philadelphia): Cole Anthony, PG, North Carolina
  20. Miami Heat: Josh Green, SF, Arizona
  21. Philadelphia 76ers (From Oklahoma City): Malachi Flynn, PG, San Diego State
  22. Denver Nuggets (From Houston): RJ Hampton, SF, New Zealand
  23. New York Knicks (From Utah): Aleksej Pokusevski, PF, Serbia
  24. New Orleans Pelicans (From Indiana): Leandro Bolmaro, SG, Barcelona
  25. Oklahoma City Thunder (From Denver): Tyrell Terry, PG, Stanford
  26. Boston Celtics: Jaden McDaniels, SF, Washington
  27. Utah Jazz (From Los Angeles Clippers): Desmond Bane, SG, TCU
  28. Oklahoma City Thunder (From Los Angeles Lakers): Tre Jones, PG, Duke
  29. Toronto Raptors: Vernon Carter, C, Duke
  30. Boston Celtics (From Milwaukee): Zeke Nnaji, C, Arizona
